Why The Holistic Healthcare Space Needs To Focus On Reputable Resources

Credible Sources: Well-Backed Research

The holistic health space, the wellness industry, and the open market on healing have their positives and negatives. On the one hand, there has been a benefit to having multiple modalities, treatment options, and pathways to health other than conventional Western medicine. And for many struggling with chronic conditions, having open access to information has been critical on their path toward optimal health.

On the other hand, the lack of regulation in this space leaves it open to issues. One of those issues is using unsupported studies and resources that are not backed by science and could even lead to serious side effects if caution is not paid.

While there needs to be more research into holistic health treatments, and health is an individual journey, there has been an expanding library of case studies, research, and analysis that can be utilized. However, navigating all of this information can be kind of tricky.

Unfortunately, too many in the holistic health space may utilize resources that lack credibility. At My Autoimmune, we want to be very careful about the resources we share and the studies we cite.

How Do You Find Credible Research?

So, to talk about what reputable research even looks like, let’s start with where you can locate it.

Sources to Find Reputable Research:

  • PubMed
  • Cochrane Library
  • University-backed research
  • Targeted peer-reviewed journals

We have a unique approach to handling information overload within the holistic health space, so let’s talk a bit more about that.

Transparency Is Critical: Here’s How We’ll Handle It

Every month we will search to find and identify high-quality new and emerging studies within the medical space. Additionally, we’ll conduct targeted-literature reviews of specific health topics.

Here’s what that means:

Based on specific topic criteria, we will look at sources such as PubMed and the Cochrane Library utilizing particular search terms related to the relevant topics.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say we wanted to review the impact of the Autoimmune Paleo Diet on inflammation. We would create a search strategy leveraging terms around the diet and its connection to an inflammatory autoimmune response.

We would use PubMed for this search, providing us with a list of peer-reviewed medical journal articles. These articles would then be evaluated, and the results from high-quality studies would be synthesized.

We will always provide citations and original sources for all the information we share. We look forward to providing our readers with the most up-to-date and accurate information possible.
